Weiner - How to Survive Covid in Suburban MD (Friendly Company Edit)

about

tl;dr Hobo Friendly Company. My friends helped. Covid sucks.

Long Form:

Despite my best efforts this is still a Weiner track because I am the only person around my musical crew that knows Reaper. But, I got a TON of help.

If you went through Covid, well, it was a giant piece of dog ass and unfortunately is likely to continue to be so in a continuingly diminishing way (I hope). All I know is it completely broke me, and I am working on a rebuild. It is a precarious consternation. Thank you to all for your generosity and patience. Apologies for all slights small, large, imagined, but particularly the real and valid ones. I have a heart felt apology, but I don’t have a time machine. I do have a guitar. I forgot for 5 years.

Production Credit: Adobs8 and Tom Miles. These two reminded me I needed to pick it back up.

Production Credit: Holy shit, PRF. So generous. Wow.

This month whoever won chose a band I had only vaguely heard of (The Wonderbread). I think something about a cow? Anyway, I found the acoustic version of this and realized it was about the people in my Covid lifeboat. Every sound on this was made by me or one of them. I choke up a bit on this track but edited it out to hide my shame. Thankfully, I can keep secrets well.

Acoustic Guitar, Helpmonica, a shaker, and a completely obvious vocal in what may be a fake British accent by accident (sorry Jason Isbell). I am of Irish heritage, and it stings an itty bit. I am married to a woman from Southend. Wonderstuff indeed.

Vibraslap Credit: My wife, who has an MFA in Vibraslap and is a rad attorney to boot.

Tambourine: World renown percussionists Lee & Fang.

Bass: Kris "Ghost Rider" Padma (doing me a big favor)

Dialogue Coordinator: Rebecca Shannon. She may be of Irish heritage also.

The crowd noises are a party I had with these people as I dragged them into my basement to MAKE A NOISE! I never listened to the part they let me record before just demolishing it into murmur. Nobody needs to hear 90 minutes of Costco planning. These are their voices though.

Party noise Coordinator: Temperance McCrystal (This is like Fatboy Slim). Rose is married to her. She is of Irish heritage and could beat me in a fist fight. Patriots fan. Ugh.

Background Vocals: Lo, Rose and Mark Hill (all also in our Eagles project Long Run). Lo’s husband, J Gastón supplied a bottle of Handy Sazerac Rye. Mark Hill’s wife is a semi famous visual artist. Her current work is a beautiful sorta Venetian glass thing she is calling Quezeda. We talked about Temperance. God bless you Rose.

Dueling Hobo Lap Steel: Lis O’ah (Hawaiian I think) and Marcel “General” B (Spanish I know). The General is a flamenco guitarist. He will only perform live, and no recording exists. I have seen him do it for audiences of up to 10.

Flute: A computer who somehow is still hitting off notes. I just left it. Very strange.

Random Commentary: Some guy named Lt. Colonel Jason Dempsey (ret.) (it was on CNN and seemed weird but apt).

Friendship Credits: Too many to list. Thank you for your support of a total jackass. I am blessed.

I assume the was written by Miles Hunt, but they may give the band songwriting credits. I looked a bit and couldn't figure it out.

At the end of the month, we vote for our top three recordings. The winning entry selects the next month's band. Good times and killer recordings since 2014! ... more
